Task 5: Video Reflections (Annie Leonard: The Story of Stuff)

After watching a video, Annie Leonard reminds me that how we destroy the natural resources terrifically these days. According to the research on her video, we consume and waste natural resources more than twice compared to 50 years ago. Even though the world’s population grew and industrial revolution brought mass production system, it is still not excusable for our next generation.

As an industrial designer, we should carefully think about what materials we use and how they affect the world environmentally. It is important to make a product more functional and nicer, but on top of that, let’s think about how we can design and promote a product not to being waste but save for our environment.

Task 5: Video Reflections (Paul Bennett: Designing Details)

Paul Bennet gave me interesting ideas and tips how simple and small things can make a big impact. In the video, Paul Bennet explains that design does not always have to be grand and impressive, but can bring an innovative solution for better product. Designing is not just a process of making a product look nicer, but to do their role in any situation.

Paul Bennet shows that design innovation is not just about spending money and times in R&D, but simple acts and observations can make a significant difference.

Task 5: Video Reflections (Yves Behar: Creating objects that tell stories)

Yven has a strong passion for design, and reflecting his own value into the product. In the video, Yven talks about how important is the value in design. He said that as designers, we need to think about how we can create relationship between our work and world, and bring the value to our business, company, and users.

I truly agree that the value we put into product brings greater value to the world and eventually change the world. Yven’s video was really helpful and it provides me a great perspective to see the value beyond the skin.

Task 5: Video Reflections (Ross Lovegrove: Organic Design)

Ross Lovegrove has a strong passion in his organic designs and use of unlimited materials. Lovegrove looking at the elegance of nature elements and creatures for creating a unique product. Through his astonishing products, I was really inspired how nature element can reflect into design and make a product so beautifully.

I found the video of organic design by Ross Lovegrove incredibly informative because it has helped me to expand my perspective and understand a new way of design. Lovegrove’s designs are extremely simple and minimal shape but yet to remain his own philosophy and characteristic into product. Probably this is the reason why Ross Loegrove became a very successful designer world widely.

Task 5: Video Reflections (David Kelley: Human centred design)

After watching the video, it gives me a striking idea how “Human-Centered Design” can impact on our new generation. David Kelly said that product design has become less about the hardware, but more about the human-centered.

I truly agree that human-centered design has become such a dominant theme in design that we have to consider it for designing a better quality of life.
